911 of the Week # 2

This week's 911 is a sexy little number -a 997 Cup for sale here @ Truspeed Motorcars.  

All Porsche race 911s destined for private hands leave the factory in white, soon to be befouled by gaudy sponsorship stickers.  I love this one however, because it remains proudly naked.

The beautiful thing about this car is that all of the addenda (the massive wing, the race mesh, the tow hooks, the aero mirrors, the cage) serve a purpose other than the typical ego boost -it's actually a race car.  

The interior is all business as well: carbon door panels with fabric pulls (RS anyone?) bare painted floor, ridiculous race seat, and toggly switches everywhere.  Check out how close the chunky gear lever is to the alcantara steering wheel -imagine dropping a few gears down the Laguna Seca Corkscrew with that!

Golf Rallye for Sale in Toronto!

One of the more obscure and wicked cool Golf variants, the Rallye is one of 5,000 cars built by Volkswagen Motorsport as a homologation special for the WRC.  With its boxy flares, Syncro 4wd, supercharged G60 motor, and typically cool Recaros, this is the Dub fan's alternative to the Integrale.

This particular example for sale here on Toronto Kijiji looks pretty good (aside from some condensation in the rear deck plastic light extensions), and the red (original paint) suits the car's racy personality as well.  Seller claims no accidents, and a full booklet of service stamps from the vehicle's native Switzerland.

The seller is looking for high teens, and I think that this could be a good deal on a nice unique 'dub -plus, the BBS RS wheels are sweet -the boys @ WheelWhores (not what you'd think -it's just a site for guys who like wheels!) would have a field day -can you say strrretch?

Porsche 911 of the Week #1

In short, 911s are my catnip. Each week, I'll post pics of a cool 911 for lust's sake.

This week, we have a wickedly quirky example of a 930, as seen in my header. Like all 930s, it's hips and tail all the way for this one.

This lightweight "special wishes" example features special order kiln red paint on a kitsch-tacular olive green interior. Dig those original Recaros!

The seller has setup a website detailing everything about the car, from its origins as the personal car of LeMans racer Francois Trisconi (don't worry, I never heard about him either), through the subsequent owners, all of which is documented with stacks of maintenance paperwork.

930 series 911s are gaining value rapidly, and deservedly so -they're fast, tail-happy cars "hewn from solid granite" (thanks Mr. Clarkson), and they're packed with more badass street cred than you can shake a frankfurter at. More eye candy for the Porschephiles here.

61k Mile '79 Porsche 928 Manual on BringaTrailer.com

The value of the Porsche 928 has been at rock bottom for quite a while, and it still represents big bang for your German car enthusiast buck.

This example, sold after being posted on Bring a Trailer.com (great site) is a rare manual car in super clean 61k survivor condition.

It may seem a bit silly now, but the folks in Zuffenhausen originally

intended for the 928 to replace the now immortal 911. Though things didn't quite turn out that way, the 928 remains a big, juicy slab of German coupe action on the cheap.

I'm a fan of the looks of the earlier cars, and this example, with its teledial wheels and first-generation valence, shows off that late 70's class beautifully -and just look at that

eggshell bum!

The interior is great nick (as our British friends would say) too. The tan interior is nice and clean (great seats in a 928 btw), and it's a great complement to the bitter chocolate brown paint.

The coolest thing about this particular car, however, is that manual tranny. Being a big V8 cruiser, most of these were specced with an automatic, making the easier to maintain stick the rarer and more desirable alternative.

Oxford Green on Green E39 M5 for Sale on Craigslist SC

Hi people,

E39 M5s are getting alot of attention online, and for good reason: Big v8 power, smooth manual transmissions, RWD handling, ageless style, and let's not forget the all-important cache of being a top Q car.

Oxford green is a personal favourite colour on e46 and e39 bimmers, and this M5 for sale here is a knockout example.

As a young lad, I remember reading a Motor Trend comparo between the Jag XJR, the Mercedes E55, and the then new e39 M5. I was gobsmacked at the idea of a 400hp sedan that could boogie with contemporary Porsches, and still have the ride and space to drop the boys off @ prep school.

The Old English green interior is a rare and beautiful option, and the whole package just oozes class. I love the dark poplar wood trim myself.

This low mileage example looks pretty tempting, and even @ the nearly $30k asking price, seems like a good investment.
